Today’s startup is tomorrow’s game changer. Comcast Ventures helps turn great ideas into powerful businesses.
Comcast Ventures has interests in the digital advertising space that encompass everything from advertising engines to mobile, video ad management and TV ad media. We provide access to some of the largest local ad markets, subscriber bases and Web properties.
Our Limited Partner, Comcast, is the majority owner and manager of NBCUniversal, which operates 30 news and entertainment cable networks, the NBC and Telemundo broadcast networks, television production operations, television station groups, Universal Pictures and Universal Parks & Resorts. Not only does this broadcast media reach give Comcast Ventures’ portfolio companies access to some of the largest local ad markets and Comcast’s 51 million combined customers, it also creates access to some of the largest Web properties on the planet, including Fandango and iVillage. Ad sector companies in our portfolio, including WhoSay, Vitrue, Integrate and BlackArrow, are using this unique access to build powerful businesses.
Comcast’s established consumer networks and brands offer rich resources and business development opportunities to help Comcast Ventures’ portfolio companies innovate in consumer technologies.
Comcast and NBCUniversal are an integral part of the daily lives of well over 100 million American consumers, seamlessly powering the way we entertain ourselves, the way we communicate with each other and the way we get our work done. The consumer networks of Comcast Ventures’ limited partner — ranging from XFINITY to NBC, Bravo and DailyCandy — create a gateway for our portfolio companies directly into the households of 22 million video and 19 million high-speed Internet customers, plus millions of households that view NBCUniversal content.
This gateway creates unparalleled access for Comcast Ventures portfolio companies like BodyMedia, Flipboard, Kiwi Crate and UberMedia to leverage our big consumer network to turn their big ideas into big businesses.
Comcast Ventures has enterprise expertise that extends from mobile enterprise platforms to B2B health-information and security services. We give portfolio companies unparalleled opportunities to quickly scale into profitable businesses.
Comcast Corporation — Comcast Ventures' Limited Partner — is best known for entertainment. Less well-known is that one of the company’s fastest growing areas is its $1.8 billion Business Services division. And that’s just the beginning: Comcast Ventures’ Partners have connections with some of the biggest brands and companies in entertainment, media and technology, many of which are prospective partners and customers for Comcast Ventures portfolio companies.
Comcast Ventures can make game-changing introductions on behalf of portfolio clients — and that’s precisely what we’ve done for our portfolio companies in the enterprise sector, like DocuSign, Enterproid, Accolade and Closely.
From video networks to cloud-based network virtualization, data aggregation, and data, voice and video broadband technologies, Comcast Ventures knows infrastructure. We regularly tap into the expertise of Comcast Cable, the largest residential broadband provider in the U.S.
Our Limited Partner is the largest provider of residential broadband in the nation. Accordingly, Comcast Corporation has expertise like no other when it comes to infrastructure building and growth — and we at Comcast Ventures share that expertise with infrastructure sector portfolio companies like CTI Towers, EdgeConneX, VeriSign and iControl. We also make powerful, business-scaling connections between our portfolio companies and our massive network of American and international contacts throughout the intricate infrastructure ecosystem.
The Catalyst Fund
The Catalyst Fund was established to serve as a catalyst for investing in early stage technology companies led by minority entrepreneurs.
In 2011, Comcast created a $20 million fund as part of the NBCUniversal transaction that is committed to expanding opportunities for minority entrepreneurs. The Catalyst Fund’s first investment was in the startup accelerator DreamIt Ventures, which operates DreamIt Access, a concentrated effort to increase the number of high-value, minority-led tech startups.
Through the Catalyst Fund we spot early-stage industry innovations from a diverse group of founders and help them leverage the Comcast NBCUniversal network to scale their ventures. The Fund seeks to invest in early financing rounds and plays a significant role in supporting the teams in the building of successful, highly valuable companies.
