Today, about 90,000 volunteers are hard at work improving more than 750 community project sites across the country, and around the world, as part of Comcast Cares Day, our company’s annual celebration of our year-round commitment to service. Right now, Comcast NBCUniversal employees, together with their friends and families and our national nonprofit partners, are cleaning parks, painting schools, planting gardens and installing computer labs to improve the cities and towns we all call home.
Comcast Cares Day began in 2001, and has since become one of our company’s best traditions. Fueled by our employees’ passion for giving back, Comcast Cares Day is now the largest single-day corporate volunteer effort in the nation. Comcast Cares Day has also gone global, with our NBCUniversal colleagues hosting projects in more than a dozen countries overseas.
As for me, I am spending Comcast Cares Day in my hometown of Houston, Texas, preparing and packaging meals at the Houston Food Bank, which provides food to more than 800,000 people a year. I’m grateful for the opportunity to do my part to provide families in need with nutritious meals.
My husband and daughter are with me in Houston, and volunteering alongside them and the other passionate volunteers here makes this day all the more meaningful. I also know that I am joined by tens of thousands of Comcast volunteers who are amplifying our efforts at projects across the country and around the globe, including:
Renovating a computer lab at Philadelphia’s Northeast Frankford Boys & Girls Club to provide Club youth with the latest technology in a clean, welcoming environment;
Hosting a block cleanup to brighten Atlanta’s Vine City neighborhood with plants, park benches, a soccer field, and an upgraded handicap accessible ramp; and
Partnering with Operation Gratitude in Los Angeles to assemble personalized care packages for U.S. military service members deployed overseas.
Comcast Cares Day speaks volumes about the people who make up our Comcast family, from our amazing employees to the national nonprofit partners we work with every day. Their commitment to community inspires us all and we look forward to making change happen today and in the years ahead.
